Kiritappu Wetland Canoe Touring & Making Your Own Sea Urchin Rice Bowl
Your guide for this canoe tour is a local fisherman who became a canoe guide because he wanted to share his wealth of knowledge about the delicious seafood he catches in Kiritappu.
The tour will take you through Kiritappu Marsh, a 3,168-hectare wetland known as the “Wetland of Flowers” because of the abundance of flowers that can be seen there. It became a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 1993, and locals established the Kiritappu Wetland National Trust in 2000 to promote conservation activities.
The wetland supplies nutrients to the sea, providing a vital food source for marine life. After your canoe tour, you’ll experience the connection between the wetland and the sea by trying your hand at shucking sea urchins and then making your own sea urchin rice bowl (domburi).
